  • Congratulations to the SHC Press Club on winning all four main categories of this year’s Daily News Press Club!

     

    Mikara Anderson was the co-winner of the “Sweepstakes Award” with the most weekly wins in one year. She shared this honor with the Stephanie Bishop from Juniata Valley High School.

     

    Brooke Carbaugh was selected by the guest judge as “Photographer of the Year" and Ryan Bennett was acknowledged as the runner-up for this award.

     

    Mikara Anderson was chosen as the “Reporter of the Year.” Her article focusing on high school students who volunteer their time as firefighters and members of EMS was the winning article determined by the guest judge.

     

    Finally, CONGRATULATIONS to the SHC Press Club on being selected as the “Outstanding Press Club Team of the Year” for the third consecutive year. This award is determined by the newspaper staff and is based on the quality of the articles, submitted photographs, the meeting of deadlines, and overall newspaper presence in the school year.

     

    Award winning team members include Mikara Anderson, Brooke Carbaugh, Mehgan McMullen, Jacob Sonnenberg, Ryan Bennett, Sarah Cisney, Olivia Black, and Jordyn Kubovcsak.

  • STEM K'Nex Challenge

     

    Faith Morgan and Hunter Miller placed 1st out of 22 teams at the STEM K'Nex Challenge and will be competing at States on May 17. Bradley Bender, Gavin Myers, Azeryal Keefer, and Holden Mellot placed in the top 6. Congratulations everyone!

    Music in the Park

    Congratulations to the Mini Tones on their FIRST PLACE finish at Music in the Parks.  They received an Excellent Rating for their performance.  GREAT JOB! 

     


    Below are some exciting new things going on in the Ag Department at SHC.

     

    The big blue tank is the new Hydroponics System where we are simultaneously raising fish and tomatoes/pepper plants together. The water from the fish tank is being cycled to the plants providing nutrients.

    The small glass aquarium is our trout in the classroom tank where students are raising brook trout to release in to the Three Springs Creek. Students are learning about the life cycle of trout and water quality parameters. 

  •  Congratulations to Sara Oakman for winning 1st Place in the Patriot's Pen essay contest sponsored by the Veteran's of Foreign Wars, Blue Juniata Memorial Post. Her winning essay won at the the local and district level, which will entitle her to go the state level!  Congratulations Sara!

  • SHC FFA had a great Mid-Winter convention and PA Farm Show.

    Mikara Anderson placed first in her Agriscience Fair category, which was Environmental Natural Resources, received her State FFA Keystone Degree, and was awarded the State Farmer Award for her efforts her in SAE projects. The chapter also had three first year members who received their FFA jackets. They were Mindee Anderson, Kenedee Doyle, and Tara Piper.

  • Above are pictures from the Advanced Biology and the AP Environmental Science students who have been conducting stream studies in the Aughwick Creek near the high school.  The studies include physical features, water chemistry, macroinvertebrates, etc.
