September 10, 2021 SHC COVID UPDATE

Within the past fourteen day window, there have been 28 positive COVID cases and 155 quarantines in grades K-12. Since August 27th, the number of cases have increased with an average of two positive cases per day. District quarantines have increased by approximately 12 students/staff per day. The two highest days recorded were September 7th and September 9th. On September 7th, the District experienced 27 quarantines and 3 positive COVID cases. September 9th reflected a slight increase with 30 quarantines and 4 positive cases. Administrators and school nurses continue to update these numbers and complete contact tracing on a daily basis.

A conversation between SHC administrators and the Department of Health occurred on September 9th. The HS/MS and Shade Gap Elementary positive cases were reported to the regional DOH representative. Following a detailed DOH question and answer session, it was determined that the District has not reached a threshold warranting building or classroom closures. For the safety of our students, staff and community, the Southern Huntingdon County School District is following the DOH facial covering order.  Students are required to wear a face covering or submit a signed and completed exemption form.
